Yesterday, we had 170 folks show up for the National Trail Day event at Olde Rope Mill park to help continue the Taylor Randahl Memorial Trail system.
A big thanks to Natalie and Mark at REI for selecting our location for their REI sponsored event. Thanks to the RAMBO chapter to assisting us with crew leaders/volunteers. Also thanks to Mark Crumpton, owner of Canyon Burgers in Downtown Woodstock for donating 200 meals for lunch.
In 3 hours, we redressed the existing 1.3 mile loop with duff. We also backcut/smoothed out another 3/4 mile of new trail. By far the most work ever accomplished in 3 hours in SORBA Woodstock history. With a couple of more trail building parties (next one on June 19th) we can expand the existng 1.3 mile loop to 4 miles. After that only 2 miles left to complete the entire 6 mile first trail - named the Avalanche trail (in honor of Taylor Rahdahl's first MTB - a GT Avalanche).
The rains held out and the event was a great success. Honestly, I kept feeling this presence over the event - like Taylor was looking down smiling on us. I think he was.
Thanks to all the volunteers that showed. You made the difference and should be proud of your accomplishment.
